It was good to see so many people staying late in the conference to attend the SIG update chaired by Bruce Kirkham (Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, London) and Toni Chan (Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust, Reading) who had put together an exciting programme.
There were two excellent treatment updates. The first was given by Philip Helliwell (Leeds) on tight control and latest development of composite measures in psoriatic arthritis and by Peter Taylor (Oxford) who very elegantly went through the most recent developments on new molecules and alternatives to TNFi for axial SpA.
The session was completed by Jon Packham (Keele) keeping us up to speed on the recently commissioned NICE Clinical Guidelines on the Diagnosis and Management of Spondyloarthritis which is currently ongoing and eagerly awaited. The advisory team did a good job by managing to get the group lead to change the initial title of “Clinical Guidelines on seronegative arthritis” to SpA! The final talks were by Sonya Abraham (London) on the newly formed Brit-PACT consortium in psoriatic arthritis.
Anybody interested in joining up and wanting to contribute to learning and research in Psoriatic arthritis is welcome to apply to join the group through PAPAA (www.papaa.org/research/brit-pact) and Helena Marzo-Ortega (Leeds) who updated the audience on the new developments with BRITSpA sharing the website, social media contacts and sending the clear message that after 3 long gestational years: we are open for business!
